Being a renter feels like you're perpetually stuck under the foot of the 1%. As you watch your paycheck drain from your bank account into your landlord's every month, it's tough not to feel a certain resentment and resistance to their wealth, since it's you who's paying their restaurant bills, buying their cars, and giving them the means to install indoor pools in their second home in Tahoe. But what if there was a way to get back at your greasy, slime-ball of a landlord, making them pay for their greedy 10-fold?

They think they're smarter/better than regular folks and that's why they're rich. To lose a tenant and then have the place stay empty for months and months shows that they don't know everything, and that pokes a hole in their self- delusion of superiority. To brag that they spend $1000 eating out per month, and that they don't need the money but I'm "getting a deal' so they are raising it.

But, since it's an equestrian town they're always able to get a larger rent price in the winter for short term. However they had to accept 1,200 less than their original listing price.

    waymoney 6 hr. ago Love that. My friends greedy landlord (after refusing to fix their broken fridge for 3 weeks) tried to raise their rent by about $600 a month. They tried to negotiate down to half of that but the landlord didn't bite so they noped out of their real fast. 5 months later, the apartment is still available for tent, but is listed for less than they were originally paying. Probably has lost close to 20k at this point in missed rent payments

    throwawayforunethica OP 6 hr. ago It's tough because I love this place because I've done so much work to it and I would never have looked for a new place if they didn't raise the rent. Now it's just...empty. But at least they got that $150.

    Ok_Neighborhood5832. 4 hr. ago Shocks me when people are renting and believe the landlord thinks they are "special" or "great tenants" so they are "giving them a deal" 98% of the time, no they aren't. And don't put equity even sweat equity into it thinking you will get something back other than enjoying it while you are there.

But you were paying $2,000 /mo. for 5 years without any rental increases and then they bumped you by 7.5%? Based on the rental increases (or lack thereof) they don't seem greedy, like you say they are.
